Video Series: Web Hosting & Domain Setup in Adobe Muse Explained

Having discussed Adobe Muse and web design with many long-time print designers, it’s obvious that the process of setting up a hosting account, buying a domain name, and linking these items together is a huge obstacle for designers new to the web.

This week we created a new series of in-depth training videos explaining this complete process. We hope these tutorials will enable you to confidently publish your client or personal sites to the web!

Chapter 1: Your Website Needs a Home

In order to publish a site on the web, you must place the website files on a “hosting server.” This is where the website lives. Learn how to setup and enable hosting using Adobe’s Business Catalyst, GoDaddy, or any other provider on the web.

PART 1: SETTING UP NEW HOSTING

PART 2: HOSTING YOUR WEBSITE FREE ON BUSINESS CATALYST

Chapter 2: What’s Your Address?

Now that your website has a home (hosting server), you need to register a website address so visitors can find where it lives. Your website address is called a “domain name” or URL, and it’s what visitors will type in the address bar to visit your site. These videos explain how to buy and set up new domain names, or point to existing domain names to new hosting services.

PART 3: BUYING NEW DOMAIN NAMES

PART 4: LINKING EXISTING DOMAINS TO YOUR NEW SITE

Chapter 3: Time to Move In!

Now that you’ve purchased a new home (and set up an address), it’s time to move in! This means publishing or uploading your website files to the new hosting account. This can be done in a variety of ways, from simply publishing directly from Muse to exporting the files and manually uploading using third party software.

PART 5: PUBLISHING / UPLOADING YOUR SITE WITH MUSE

PART 6: UPLOADING YOUR SITE USING FTP SOFTWARE

Enjoy!

Cheers,

All these videos have been really helpful :)
I’m fairly new to Muse and I’m wondering how you find out how much hosting additional websites on Business Catalyst costs, after using up the 5 free sites.

Steve/AdobeMuse,
Thank you so much for providing an overview of domains and web hosting. Am trying to take my passion to the next level (publishing a website using Muse). This answered many of my questions and fears. Now it is up to me to follow through. Happy Holidays!

Thank you so much! This is the exact information I needed right when I needed it. I am designing my first ever Muse website for a client and was very intimidated by the hosting/domain/email portion. This answered all my questions and even taught me things I didn’t know to ask. Thanks again!

Clients almost always want to pin down the DN asap so it is reserved at the outset of the project before the site goes live. Can you purchase a domain name through Adobe before you launch a live site?
